Description

After completing the tutorial, you will be able to create various types of plants in SpeedTree, integrate them into Blender and create a realistic render by physically adjusting light and shaders. I will teach you my process on how to create a stunning render in Blender Cycles step by step, starting at the very basics. We will discuss how and where to gather valuable reference for your project, as well as how you can inspire yourself to create creative renders.

You will learn how to create different shaders in Blender Cycles, how light can be adjusted physically correct and how to setup your renderer to deliver great results in no time. We will also be covering, how you can compose your scene to make the most out of it, while also using common post-processing techniques to make your render pop even more.

What can I benefit the most from the tutorial?

Creating realistic renderings can be a tough challenge. With this tutorial you will learn, how easy it can be when you understand the basics correct. You will also learn a lot about procedural workflows and creating foliage.

What can be gained after learning?

Procedural creation of Foliage for VFX; Phyically accurate shading inside Blender Cycles; Composition, rendering and post-processing of scenes.

Why should I buy this tutorial?

People often assume creating stunning renders needs a lot of work. Mostly it comes down to nailing and most importantly knowing the key parts and basics. This tutorial will teach you exactly that.

Kai “Kizzle” Mergener

Material & Environment Artist

My name is Kai but you can call me Kizzle. I have been working in 3D since age of 14, where at that time I mostly made simple texture mods for Call of Duty. Now, I have been working as material & environment artist at “Gentlymad Studios”, currently working on Endzone – A World Apart. I love learning new software and new workflows, which is why I constanlty increase my skill across multiple software such as SpeedTree, Substance Suite, Blender and many more.

Core Knowledge Points

After completing the tutorial, you will be able to create various types of plants in SpeedTree, integrate them into Blender and create a realistic render by physically adjusting light and shaders. I will teach you my process on how to create a stunning render in Blender Cycles step by step, starting at the very basics. We will discuss how and where to gather valuable reference for your project, as well as how you can inspire yourself to create creative renders.

01 Theory – Searching for an idea
At the beginning, we will start to learn where to gather good reference and explanation about things to be considered in advance of the creation process.

02 Setting Up Blender Cycles for Fast Rendering

Right after that, we will make a brief explanation of all the options inside Cycles to enable fast and consistent rendering for the early stage.

03 Working with shaders in Blender

Next, we will do a quick explanation of the node-based workflow. Basic setup for assigning and creating textures to objects.

04 Creating Water and Foliage

Right after that, we will shade and create photorealistic water, as well as there different types of plants procedurally created in SpeedTree.

05 Populating The Scene and Scattering
Next, we will scatter the foliage and layer different types of foliage for realism.

06 Lights, Cameras and Volumetric

Hereafter, we will do simple sculpting and displacement to shape the garden.

07 Composition and Rendering

Then, we will do the final rendering setting and preparation of different passes.

08 Post Processing

Finally, we will add common post-processing effects.
